Bea Johnson for those that don't know is a French women living in San Francisco in the United States. She decided in 2009 to change her way of life and achieve a Zero waste home
She proposes simple principles the 5 Rs as she calls them to follow in that order only:
1 - Refuse (what we don't need) single-use plastics, free gifts, commercial fliers, unsustainable practices to reduce our consumption. 2 - Reduce (what we need and can not refuse) favor quality over quantity, rethink all our consuming and purchasing habits for only essential items and simplified life style. 3 - Reuse (what we consume and can not refuse or reduce) we can reuse the same objet more than once as is or giving it another use 4 - Recycled (what we can not refuse, reduce or reuse) 5 - Rot (the rest) Zero waste is a philosophy based on life rules to reduce personal waste to its maximum. Recycling is not THE solution. Now she travels throughout the world to explain her life style and share her experience. Her book is available in english https://zerowastehome.com/about/book/ Of course her way of life is extreme but each one of us can contribute in our own way and find inspiration in her "recipes". I was invited to assist to a conference from Bea Johnson taking while I was in the middle of moving after 13 years in the same place. I guess it came perfectly in that difficult process of turning a page.
