The world of nutrition has come to realize that contrary to the common thought, coconut oil is not only healthy it is also necessary to our health as it contains medium chain triglycerides that are used very rapidly and not stored in the body.

  • Do you know that coconut oil can help you to loose weight ?
  • Do you know that the oil is very good for cooking at high temperature ?
  • Do you know that coconut oil can be used to fight infections as it has anti-bacterial virtues ?
  • Do you know it protects our neurones and can help slow down neurologic diseases like Alzheimer ?
  • It helps fight skin dehydration and may help prevent wrinkles ?
  • Do you know that it helps prevent atherosclerosis and high blood pressure ?

Coconut has been used since Antiquity, It was used to treat many diseases (psoriasis, dandruff, chronic fatigue, hemorrhoids….. even against tooth decay)

Nutritional composition:
Coconut oil does not contain protein, carbohydrates, minerals and almost no vitamins. It is pure grease with some vitamin E.
Coconut oil contains 92% saturated fat but as shown by  recent research the saturated fats in coconut oil are mainly in the form of medium chained triglycerides (MCTs also called MCFAs).
The MCTs contain lauric acid around 50% (beneficial for immune function), caprylic acid (antibacterial and antimicrobial properties), capric acid (immnune boosting and antimicrobial properties).
We consume mainly long chain fatty acids that need to be broken down before being absorbed. Coconut oil is high in short and medium chain fatty acids which are easily digested and sent directly to the liver for energy production without the need for bile or pancreatic enzymes for digestion.

What coconut oil to buy?
It is best to use organic, unrefined coconut oil and cold pressed. I give you some brand names in the local infos
It is solid at room temperature. It can be kept for a long time thanks to its antioxidants.

 Skin care uses:
  • coconut oil is an excellent massage oil especially for dry skin
  • Its antioxidant properties help treat various skin problems such as psoriasis, dermatitis, eczema…
  • coconut oil is also an excellent hair conditioner.
  • insect repellent - mix with essential oils such as peppermint, rosemary and tea tree.
  • nail cuticle oil.
Food uses:
  • cooking at high heat as coconut oil has a high smoke point and remains stable at high temperature.
  • It can be used for pastries, cookies (look at my cacao dates truffes), in place of butter or oil but can also be used for cold preparations.
Medical uses:
  • candida killer - the anti microbial properties can help kill yeast and candida
  • acne fighter - coconut oil acts as a natural antibiotic that can kill harmful bacteria - mix coconut oil with tea tree oil and raw honey.
